When Apple released iOS 9.2, it came with some new features, a bug fix, and a handful of security fixes; but the real question most users want answered is: When will we see an iOS 9.2 jailbreak? This is the latest information we have to offer on an iOS 9.2 jailbreak:
We know that, in October, Pangu released a jailbreak for iOS 9.0, but because iOS 9.1 was released so soon afterwards, it killed the jailbreak for users who updated to that new version. Since that time we have yet to see the release of a newer jailbreak, but now that iOS 9.2 is out we’re very hopeful that we’ll see one soon.
We found it strange that Pangu released their jailbreak when they did, when most users new that iOS 9.1 was just around the corner; however, at that time the jailbreak had already been patched up in iOS 9.1 beta, so at that point the jailbreak release was warranted.
So, now that the new update is out, here are some things you should know about an iOS 9.2 jailbreak if you’re interested.
Don’t Update to iOS 9.2
To begin with, it’s important to remember that if your device is currently jailbroken, you shouldn’t update to iOS 9.2 straight away: if you do, you’ll lose your jailbreak, plus you won’t be able to downgrade to iOS 9.0.
Of course, if you’re having issues with iOS 9.1, you could always take the risk and update to iOS 9.2 right now and take advantage of the bug fixes and new features. As long as you understand that you’ll lose your jailbreak; but we are very hopeful that an iOS 9.2 jailbreak will be released very soon so it shouldn’t be too long before you’d be able to re-jailbreak.
iOS hackers like Taig and Pangu very rarely share their jailbreaking progress, so no-one is entirely sure what stage they’re at: Perhaps an iOS 9.2 jailbreak exists, or maybe it doesn’t; either way you won’t know until Pangu opens the box.
Rumor has it that Pangu actually has an iOS 9.2 jailbreak working right now, and that they won’t release it until they have access to a final version of iOS 9.2 to check if it patches the jailbreak exploits.
Obviously we’re not taking this rumor too seriously, particularly when we consider that new jailbreak rumors are always just that – rumors! Developers never discuss their jailbreaking progress, and that includes Pangu.
But, it’s probably quite true that Taig and/or Pangu are currently working on a jailbreak for iOS 9.2, so if you hear rumors saying that an iOS 9.2 jailbreak will be released shortly, then it’s probably quite true.
However, we don’t have a definite release date for a new jailbreak, especially one for an iOS 9.2 jailbreak. So it’s probably safe to say at this point that someone is definitely working on a new jailbreak, but we have no official word as to when we might see it.
